May. 08, 2018

Mother’s Day is a perfect opportunity to show your appreciation for that special maternal figure in your life, but what if you’re fresh out of gift ideas?

Well, why not spend the holiday taking mom out for a memorable experience, instead? Alberta has many opportunities for Mother’s Day activities that are sure to be cherished memories for years to come.

There’s no gift for your mother that’s better than quality time. If you’re looking for a family activity in the Alberta area that’s fun for mom and yourself, read on for some great suggestions you can try out this holiday!

A Painting Lesson at the Grande Parlour

Treat your mom to an afternoon of art and culture hosted by “My Crooked Canvas” at the Grande Parlour in Cold Lake on May 13th. Tickets include lessons and a charcuterie or dessert sampler plate, and other food offerings will be available for purchase. Spend some mother-child bonding time over a glass of wine and a fun project!

With a variety of shows and events happening every season, tickets to the Grande Parlour for a future event would be a perfect additional gift!

An Afternoon at the Beaulieu Gardens

Tucked away in Calgary, the historic Lougheed House is home to the beautiful Beaulieu Gardens. Tour the colourful and serene grounds that were once home to the provincial elite, complete with beautifully tended tiered lawns and a variety of blooming flora.

For lunch, you can sup at the Lougheed House Restaurant on the property. Dining will include a half-price ticket to the grounds. Or, enjoy Calgary’s most unique tea service, Lougheed Afternoon Tea, with service for six! Perfect for moms with a big family.

After your visit to the gardens, shopping in downtown Calgary is mere minutes away.

Find a Treasure or Two at Special Sales

May is chock full of special fairs and seasonal markets that are perfect for a day out with mom. We’ve listed a few that are worth checking out here.

The Butterdome Spring Craft Sale at the University of Alberta features over 180 of Canada’s best artisans, artists, and designers. From May 4-6, experience thousands of Canadian-made items from jewelry, handmade treats, fashion, glassware, decor, and more. Tickets are only $5, which leaves you plenty of pocket money to find mom a gift she adores straight from the creator.

City Market Downtown in Edmonton is holding a Mother’s Day special event on May 12th. The first 150 mothers will receive a variety of gifts such as a potted pansy, a handcrafted chocolate from Choclination, and a voucher for $5 in market bucks. Admission is free to City Market, which was named the best farmers market in 2013 by National Geographic Traveler.

Shop dozens upon dozens of vendors, enjoy live music from performers, and partake of the delicious fare that the market has to offer. A great all-day trip with mom that’s sure to be full of delight!

Mother’s Day Activities She’ll Cherish for a Lifetime

Quality time with your mom is the gift that can never be forgotten. Whether you take her out for a special lunch, an art lesson, a garden tour, or on a unique shopping experience, mom will never forget the time you chose to spend making her feel special.

Spend some time pampering the woman who deserves only the best. While we can cherish our mothers every day, this one special holiday is the time where we get to put her front and centre. Choose Mother’s Day activities that suit her personality, and you won’t go wrong sharing something she loves.

Happy Mother’s Day, from all of us at The Grande Parlour.
